December 22nd: San Jose
Arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel.
December 23rd: San Jose
After breakfast, a visit to some of the highlights of San Jose, including the Jade Museum, one of Costa Rica’s most famous museums. A visit also to the National Theatre, probably the most ornate of all the city’s public buildings.
December 24th: San Jose – Quepos – Papagayo Peninsula
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Quepos. Arrival and transfer to your hotel, located close to the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park.
December 25th: Papagayo Peninsula
After breakfast, we will embark on a three-hour hike on the nature trails of the park observing wildlife such as sloths, coatimundis (quashes), several species of monkey, butterflies, reptiles, and many varieties of wild birds. Christmas lunch before free time to explore the beaches just outside of the park. Return to your hotel.
December 26th: Carara National Park
After breakfast, excursion to the northernmost region of the Pacific rainforest still remaining in Costa Rica, and site of the beginning of the transition zone into the tropical dry forests of the northwest. Carara is one of Costa Rica's most popular National Parks. Hike through some of the trail systems.
December 27th: Papagayo Peninsula
Day to relax or take the opportunity for some snorkeling or diving with the chance to see schools of fish, rays, jacks, whale sharks, giant mantas, sea turtles, white tip sharks, and dolphins or relax in the pristine surroundings of the resort.
December 28th: Peninsula– Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja and the Rincón Volcano
A visit today to this 35,000 acre National Park, named after its active volcano, Rincón de la Vieja. Thirty-two rivers and streams have their sources within the park and is home to the country's highest density of national flower, the guaria morada, a purple orchid. The Rincón Volcano is about one million years old and is the third most active volcano in Costa Rica. It has nine active craters and with some mild activity since the late 1960s. The most recent eruption of steam and ash was in 1997. Return to your hotel.
December 29th: San Jose – Arenal Volcano
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to San Jose and onward by private vehicle to Arenal Volcano, the only volcano in Costa Rica constantly active since it awoke after 400 years of dormancy.
Arrival and accommodation at the Tabacon Lodge in a Volcano view room.
Enjoy a bath in the sulfur water formed by the natural pools in this geologically active area with a chance of viewing some volcanic eruptions. December 30th: Arenal Volcano - San Jose
After breakfast, transfer back to the airport in San Jose for your return flight home.
